Transcript: GOP Response From Gov. Mitch Daniels

Needed to be a more direct attack at the President, Obamacare and his leftist agenda.

*

Now instead of demanding we surrender Social/Moral/Cultural issues because “The World is a dangerous place,” or because “National Security trumps all else” we are told to put them on the back burner for the sake of “Economic Security.”

Kudos on a nice attempt, but I’m still not interested in surrendering to the Liberals. It’s nice that they have come-up with a new strategy after all of these years, though. It took them a while, but they have a new angle on the whole “Let’s just dump the Social Issues” platform.

*

Great rebuttal speech by Gov Mitch Daniels! Just to add my comments.... I hate 0dumb0shit more & more every day! May he & his bastard family roast forever in Hell & the Lake of Fire. It is eagerly awaiting he & his family!

*

If we cave on social issues, the economy will go in the tank and there will be nothing worth defending anyway.

*

"Nice speech but no fire.
Barring a major screw up by Obambi, I think the GOP has blown this election. Our candidates have beat up on themselves to the point that no one left running is really viable.

The worst President in the history of our country looks to be heading for re-election, and we have handed it to him on a silver platter. They don't call us the stupid party for no reason.

Sorry for being a downer, but I am beyond disgusted with our party."

Really? I think that the debates have helped form opinions about all the candidates. Would you rather have had the GOP Party “Leaders” run the “It’s My Turn” bit again and just anoint Romney? I agree that the Party stinks, but it stinks from the top and not the bottom. We cluck about how corrupt the RATs are, but just look at how shamelessly the GOP “leaders” do some of the very same crooked things. Just like the RATs, they think that they know better so they treat Conservatives like the RATs treat their “minorities.” Which is to say like “slaves.”
As far as Daniels is concerned, there was no fire, and yet the “Party Leaders” are now talking about how they can plug this guy in if Romney continues to disintegrate. Romney, Daniels, alleee sameee! Northeast Liberals.

*

It reads OK but nothing dramatic. I gather the delivery wasn't very dramatic either. Oh well. That's what we have NEWT for.

*

"...... I hope the other GOP Nominees were taking notes on the verbage that Mr. Daniels put forth."

I certainly hope NOT. He praised Obama for being a family man (direct attack on Newt) and stated that Obama did not cause the mess we are in. WRONG. All of Obama's policies have damaged the economy and none of them have helped. Therefore Obama IS the cause for the mess. Perhaps intentionally inflicting damage.

Daniels represents the typical establishment Milquetoast Bob Dole crap we need to exorcise from the Republican Party.

*

An excellent speech. But he completely skipped over all the social issues. Obama is a baby killer. That needs to be said. Obama and his friends are imposing sexual perversions on our school children. That needs to be said. Obama hates Christianity, and hates freedom of religion. That needs to be said.

And foreign policy? Many more of our troops were wounded and killed in Afghanistan under Obama than were ever killed under Bush. Yet Obama has basically lost that war. Bush had the war in Iraq almost won, but Obama lost that war, too.

Obama has given Brazil billions of dollars to drill for oil under the sea, although he has blocked any new development here—so Brazil could sell it to the Chinese! And now by blocking the pipeline he is trying to force Canada to sell all their oil to the Chinese.

Obama helped force secular leaders out in Egypt and Tunisia, and now fanatical Islamists are taking over. He bombed schools and hospitals in Libya and handed that country over to Muslim terrorists, too. The so-called “Arab Spring” is rapidly turning into a winter for the civilization we have built up over the past centuries.

And so forth. A good speech, but it leaves a lot out. And why on earth waste time with compliments for Michelle?

*

This could have been the best speech since Reagan’s “Tear Down This Wall”, but it won’t matter one bit. I bet tonight’s ratings for this event were the lowest yet for Obummer. Mitch had a bad lead in.

*

There is absolutely nothing in his blah blah blah speech that indicates the true peril we face. It is a speech what will properly be forgotten by midnight tonight.

We have in Obama a person who is hell-bent on transforming and destroying our Republic. That is an indisputable fact. He has stated that he "wants to fundamentally transform" Amercia.

What Mr. Daniels, Mitt, and the rest of the weak contemptible GOP-e do not consciously understand is that Obama is doing exactly that! Obama and his gang laugh at the GOP.

Read Mr.Daniels speech with the thought that Obama is going full speed in his effort to transform our Republic into a decaying Socialist Hell. In that context, anyone with any sense of righteousness, any sense of red-blooded American anger, would say to Mr. Daniels, "Mitch, get the H*ll out of the way and let real [political] Warriors save our Republic."

2012 is not a time for men of small stature, minds and spirits. The American people will never rally around Mitch, Mitt or any other GOP-e. 2012 will determine America's destiny

Very disheartening, I’ve all up given up hope for saving the country. I guess we will just have to collapse under debt and then in 15 or 20 years if there still is a USA try again.

*

"You would be surprised at how many here simply do not understand the power that was in Daniels words. Kind of disheartening actually."

I agree, jwalsh07. Overall, I thought Gov. Daniels' speech was rather brilliant.

I'm getting slammed on the SOTU live thread for simply saying 'I liked Daniels' speech'. What's going on with FR lately...?

*

It’s my belief that Obama and the Democrats exploded our national debt to deliberately harm this country.

*

"Pssst...the GOP “establishment” isn’t just RINOs. It’s “conservatives” who like making every cultural problem into an unwinnable national crusade that is often in turn lost to Democrats and the judges they appoint, not to mention the “compassionate” conservatives who want to make religious charities wards of the state as well. It’s “conservatives” who squeal every time someone suggests some defense cuts, particularly money for white elephants and stationing troops overseas in countries that could be defending themselves. It’s conservatives who propose reforming entitlements right after they add to them. It’s conservatives who only propose getting rid of cabinet-level agencies during campaign years....and it’s the phonies who vote for them in spite of the facts."

I don’t suppose you would like to specify who your “fiscally conservative” (whatever that may mean), anti-religious, anti-military, non-compassionate and social issue indifferent (at best) candidate might be and why you regard that candidate as a conservative in spite of it all. I did not think so.

*

The deficits under Bush were manageable. And he tried to face the entitlement problem, but got no help from the GOP Congress. He should have done better on the deficit, but it was not the problem it is has become since 2009.

*

Debt exploded under Bush and now under Obama it is just about uncontrollable. I don’t now how much longer the world will allow us to export trillions of dollars a year but when that stops, we collapse just as hard as the USSR did. Already India, China, Russia and others are stopping their use of dollars for international purchases. The clock is ticking and the red light is flashing. Were Germany to leave the Euro and issue D. Marks the dollar would be toast.

*

I was thinking that the speech ought to have been handed to Palin so she could edit it to procvide more memorable lines and the deliver it herself.

*

Wow, I wish we in CT had a conservative governor like Mitch Daniels! Nothing but pure socialism and union thuggery here in the Peoples' Republik of Connecticut. Our governor here walks in complete lockstep with Uncle Sham Wow Obama.

*

Mitch is not even Coolidge, someone he calls to mind. Coolidge was very sharp, knew his limitations as a platform speaker. He was, however, the first President to address the nation by radio, and was very effective in that medium—and knew it. I sometimes wonder what Coolidge would would have done if he had not lost his son Calvin. He was devastated, and all the jokes about his naps come back to me. Obviously he was deeply depressed, and he had the taste of ashes in his mouth. Probably killed him before his time, because his father had such a long time. If he had really sought the election in 1928 he could have had it. If he had been president, the crash would have come, but at least he would not have made Hoover’s mistakes.

*

You are right on the money. I would have to do some research, but at some point I assume back in the 70s or 80s the British people faced an election like we now face, and they had a choice between a party(labor party)that wanted socialism (government control of healthcare and the key sectors of the economy and the conservative party that wanted the status quo as far as the economic system - free enterprise.

The people of England made the wrong choice and the socialist once in power started baby-sitting the people. Good for the first little while, but as history has shown us time after time, socialism finally proves to be a failed system and we have what we see in England today. It’s a total mess.

*

"I would not be surprised if Obama was making a deliberate attempt of collapsing the USA. But I think it is more plausible that he is just a lazy corrupt incompetent sudo Marxist."

To: jpsb
I believe with every fiber of my body that he is under the direction of Soros and other large contributors who want a world market with no trade barriers, an international currency and believe that the world is so dangerous now, only a world government can maintain order. He was elected to set in motion the destruction of the US economy.

There can never be a world government, free world markets, etc., until the US is brought to its knees. The US is too strong and independent to turn over authority to an outside governing body. That is until its broken and in chaos and the solution is a new economic system being put in place.

*

There was a reason so many attacked Newet ;he was effective at stopping the socialist Dhimmicrats and their RINO enablers. Newt and the Contract with America is what made the Clinton time better economically.
We have a committed enemy of of way of life as president now,and he needs to be confronted and sent packing. Newt is looking like the one most likely to do that.

*

May this nation see a new springtime of evangelization! AMEN!

*

None of the establishment candidates are acceptable.
McCain was the final straw.

*

"Kudos on a nice attempt, but I’m still not interested in surrendering to the Liberals. It’s nice that they have come-up with a new strategy after all of these years, though. It took them a while, but they have a new angle on the whole “Let’s just dump the Social Issues” platform."

Rush has a theory about that. He believes it goes back to these NE Republicans having wives that don't like to be associated with those peasants who go to Wal Mart and fight to be the first in church on Sunday.

Pure Northeast elitism.

BTW has anybody else noticed that all of the proposed solutions require the government to do something and not to have them stop doing something?

*

Mitch Daniels as a replacement? The guy was a relatively uninspiring suit. And while his pre-written transcript I’m sure hits all the right points, there was no fire.

If the republicans are going to go with a Rino, then they might as well go with Giuliani. At least he’s one of the best orators in the country.
